In 2005 Harold Pinter asked Julian Sands to prepare a set of his poems for a special presentation in London. Working closely with Pinter, he was granted a rare insight into his personality, life, and work. This extraordinary collaboration evolved into a wonderfully humorous and fascinating solo show directed by John Malkovich.
Be a part of the audience for this evening of Homeric theater with an extraordinary actor. The performance gets to the soul of the man — poet, playwright, husband, political activist, nobel winner . . . mortal.
What the New York critics have to say…
“Though he is wearing a tailored black suit Julian Sands is about as naked as an actor can be… WHEN HE READS PINTER’S POEMS, YOU FEEL THE PLAYWRIGHT’S PRESENCE.
When Julian Sands, the handsome… British movie star… slips into a Pinter imitation in the casual narrative woven through the reading, it feels like a thump to the chest.
My favorite moment in the show… when Mr. Sands, in Pinter’s voice as director, provides an invaluable demonstration. ‘This is a beat. This is a pause. This is a silence.’ Those are the words Pinter said. BUT YOU HAVE TO HEAR MR. SANDS SAYING THEM, AT STAGGERED INTERVALS, TO FEEL ANEW JUST HOW VIBRANT PINTER’S VOICE IS…” -Ben Brantley, NY Times [More]
“THE BEAUTIFULLY PERFORMED EVENING IS A REVELATION.” -Frank Scheck, NY Post [More]
“…An elegant, engaging homage. Sand’s accomplished delivery of Pinter’s moving language is both graceful and impassioned.” – AP [More]
