Orson had offers to take his LADCC Award winning show to New York and elsewhere,
but he feels strongly that this is a show he wants everyone to see and to enjoy, just as
our audiences did here at PRT.  He decided to “give it away to the world”  and
posted it on YouTube.  Now YOU and EVERYONE you know can enjoy this hilarious,
heart-warming show.

WILL CALL: Reviews Safe at Home: An Evening with Orson Bean

Stage and Cinema Reviews Safe At Home. In his autobiographical solo outing, Bean comes across as a delightfully avuncular fellow, equal parts relative from your last Thanksgiving dinner and movie star with a heart of glamorous gold. Particularly surprising is the subject’s unexpected modesty.

Stage Raw Why spend an evening with Orson Bean? The now 87 year-old performer of stage and screen naturally has a lifetime of memories to cherry pick and relate. More importantly, the man is a consummate raconteur who has honed his sleight-of-hand trickery and comic timing to perfection. His style is amiable and droll, easy and nimble.

Cultural Weekly – Sylvie Drake On another stage, in far-away Venice — not Italy, but California, which is far enough — a delicious 75 minutes may be spent in the company of one Dallas Burrows, alias Orson Bean, alias simply O, who invites us into his cockeyed world. It’s all magic tricks, terrible jokes, hellish tales of childhood trauma sweetly told, while Bean inimitably offers all of the good and some of the bad with such bonhomie, such a wickedly gentle demeanor, that it’s impossible to emerge with anything but a glow and a silly smile on one’s face.

“abundant and genuine belly laughs. Try Orson Bean’s solo memoir/stand-up comedy and magic act “Safe at Home,” at Pacific Resident Theatre in Venice.”  Don Shirley – LA Observed

I put together a show about my life and performed it for Marilyn Fox, artistic director of Pacific Resident Theatre. Afterwards, she emailed me the following: “Orson, I was so blown away and deeply moved by your show. I keep thinking about it. I was moved to tears often and laughing the rest of the time. I want to produce it here at PRT. I believe it could really go to Broadway.” The upshot: We start previews Oct. 15. The great Guillermo Cienfuegos has agreed to direct it (fresh from his triumphs with Henry V and The Homecoming).

Come see for yourself. (It’s got magic too.)
