“A creative and compact retelling of Shakespeare’s iconic tale of dysfunctional families, performed by 7 actors.”

“Better thou hast not been born,
than not to have pleased me better!”

Tony Pasqualini as King Lear

Notes from Director/Adaptor – Tom Beyer

I was inspired to write my adaptation, “KING LEAR IN 90 MINUTES FOR 7 ACTORS” because Shakespeare’s LEAR captures in astonishing detail all the psychological nuances of the “rage-aholic narcissistic parent” and I grew up with this phenomenon!
I wanted to make a version of the piece that was a lot shorter than the original, without losing its potency.  I also wanted to put a theatrical twist on elements of the piece that have never satisfied me, while creating an evening of theatre that would delight an audience’s imagination.
